Female CEO and board composition: A gender rivalry approach to family firms

This paper investigates the impact of female chief executive officers (CEOs) on women’s representation board directors (BoD). As scholars maintain that positive effects exerted by gender diversity firms’ performance depend achievement a critical mass, we focus role CEOs as determinant number appointed women in context family businesses, exploring how persistence stereotypes, along with homosocial reproduction and individual socio-emotional wealth (SEW) objectives affect tokenism phenomena. We test our hypothesis sample 70 listed firms 2014–2021 period. Consistently prediction, findings provide evidence negative association between directors, thus suggesting businesses’ dominant male coalitions SEW matters may hinder inclusiveness to avoid inter-group dysfunctionalities decision-making.
